I attended BHS from 1st year to the beginning of 4th year. Don't get me wrong; I had some good times there but overall I HATED my experience. I had to drop out of Belfast high because of my anxiety and panic attacks (caused by bullying there and pressure). When it got to the point where i coulsnt enter a classroom, the pastoral care was absolutely horrible. The nurse; Mrs Yetman, who is in charge of physical health, not mental health, was no help at all and thought that dragging me into classes was an amazing solution. Mrs Creighton, my year head, actually physically held my arms behind my back one day, when I was in the middle of anowhere anxiety attack. But the worst person of all was Mrs Hood; she is 'head of pastoral care', but also a full time teacher, which means that she has no time for her other position. There are some details I won't get into, but she was no where near worthy of being deemed to help kids wih mental health issues. Also, the principal, Mrs Gormley, never even knew my name until I left the place. This school has a 'sink or swim' ato sphere. If you are a confident and intelligent then this is the school for you. However, if you are shy or need any extra support, I strongly suggest that you find a school elsewhere. Antrim Grammars pastoral care is AMAZING and I have to thank them for a lot.
Belfast high is a very good schoold our daughter is very happy with it and Katie said every 1 should go.But the design is quite old but still a very good school.
